Anna Bess Brown, MPH

Anna Bess Brown is the Executive Director of the Justus-Warren Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Task Force which promotes policies and activities to prevent heart disease and stroke. She grew up in Ahoskie in northeastern North Carolina and studied English at Meredith College. She began working in women’s health early on in her career and has experience in sexual assault and intimate partner violence prevention and in HIV prevention and testing. After earning her Master of Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she worked in the field of maternal and child health. She served as state Program Services and Public Affairs Director at the NC chapter of March of Dimes and as the director of Healthy Babies are Worth the Wait ® prematurity prevention program for the national office. Most recently Anna Bess worked at the UNC Center for Maternal and Infant Health where she managed the 17P Program to prevent preterm birth. She enjoys sharing the arts with her talented husband Eric, and together they miss their lively son Evan who lives in New England.
