Dave Gardner serves as the Worksite Wellness Coordinator and Early Care and Education (ECE) lead for the Community and Clinical Connections for Prevention and Health (CCCPH) Branch. In his role, Dave oversees worksite wellness focused strategies. Dave also represents the Branch on the Integrating Healthy Opportunities for Physical Activity and Eating (I-HOPE) Leadership team. Dave’s professional career includes experience in K-12 and university teaching, development and direction of workplace wellness programs, management in a healthcare system, administration in the NC Department of Public Instruction and executive director for a statewide, university-based health and wellness center. Throughout his career, Dave has sought and accepted opportunities to provide leadership and service to expand and enhance the role health and prevention can and should play in schools, worksites, hospitals, higher education and communities. Gardner has served on numerous councils, boards, and task forces and remains engaged in professional organizations and collaborations that promote and support primary prevention and well-being. Dave comes to the CCCPH from UNC Asheville where he served as the founding Executive Director for the NC Center for Health and Wellness from 2010 – 2015.
Dave is a Raleigh native who enjoys reading, golf, time in the gym, following the App State Mountaineers and sitting on the deck at sundown at Beech Mountain. Dave’s wife, Joyce, is a retired teacher and education administrator. The Gardners have two grown children and two grandchildren.
