From 2012 through 2018, the CCCPH Branch partnered with the Foundation for Health Leadership & Innovation with funding from the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust to improve health through the Catalyst for Healthy Eating and Active Living. Beaufort, Burke, Cleveland, Edgecombe, Halifax, McDowell, Nash and Rockingham counties participated in the Catalyst, striving to create communities where people have access to healthy foods and places to be physically active. Catalyst Coordinators in these counties built collaboration among local, regional and statewide organizations, linked to resources and strengthened community involvement.
- Assisting farmers’ markets in making healthy food accessible to low income customers through SNAP/EBT programs and related outreach and promotions.
- Working with schools to promote their playgrounds, trails and facilities as places people can be active.
- Ensuring that health is addressed in long-term plans that shape the future of our communities.
